senri will let sasuke take his wrist even as he keeps frowning]
I know. I started a conversation knowing that he was hiding something from me.
And I gave him the opportunity to tell me the truth, but he kept lying and trying to cover it up. If he'd just told me the truth or admitted it out of guilt, then I wouldn't be so angry... but I know he was trying to hide something from me.
[It's a question, but not really a question. His eye searches the areas of the inn to make sure no one else is wandering around. He leads Senri back to one of the rooms he's claimed, for now, as his own.
And then he frees Senri once inside, so Senri can roam.]
You realize this doesn't tell me anything when you aren't upfront about whatever idiotic disagreement the two of you are having.
He lied to me about something that someone else is hiding and I don't know if that person told you, but it's not really a big deal because no matter what happens we'll all be safe. I need you to trust me on this one.
I can't be upfront about it because it's another secret that isn't mine to tell.
[which is... convoluted in his own way but if senri's allowed to roam then guess what senri's going to fucking pace because he's super irritated]
But no. I thought that for a second - like Chilled Bones but emotional? Except now I know all three Merriments, and none of them are using that power, and I can say for certain that he was just -
He just felt like acting like he didn't care about me instead.
[Damn, Senri is so frustrating. He's surprised this hasn't already happened considering just how IRRITATING Senri can sometimes be.]
If it isn't your secret to tell me, it may not have been his secret to tell you either. Besides, don't be stupid. There's plenty of other abilities that could make him lie. Eye of the Beholder, Devil's Advocate, Hopelessly Devoted, even Virtuous Influence.
[His hand passes over his good eye, rubbing the socket, and then back through his hair. He watches Senri pace the room, and it's good there's nothing but wide and open tatami for it.
But there's a cabinet low on the floor by the wall with one door open, and Sasuke moves over to close it, shifting whatever's inside.]
No, he lied. He knew what he was doing, and he wasn't cursed. The last Beauty doesn't have Eye of the Beholder. Devil's Advocate only works on the weekend. The last Piety is probably going to use Divine Prayer until the game is over. If any of the Love's used Hopelessly Devoted, I'm telling you all their names and then they'll have to deal with the consequences.
[senri pays attention more than expected sometimes and he's just so mad he wants to kick something but these walls are NICE so he CAN'T] I'd give him the benefit of the doubt if I thought it was that but-
[HE'S SO MAD, DAMN.]
He lied to me in exchange for a stupid, small favor - and I know what the favor was and it's not good enough for me to not be mad. He didn't even apologize! He probably doesn't even feel bad for upsetting me this much!
[Wow. It's a damn shame they aren't connected so Senri can feel the small sproing of interest Sasuke gets out of hearing Senri, for once, be intelligent openly. He stands up after shutting the cabinet, peering at Senri with... maybe a little amusement.
This sure is a tantrum.]
I told you everyone is playing this game their own way. No one is going to be completely loyal... not when goals and wishes differ. Not when their gods differ.
[well he's not sure entirely the reasoning anymore and if there's any way to make it acceptable to senri. so he doesn't really try? he just trails off and thinks about sasuke's question instead.]
Back home? More than a couple times. But there isn't a single soul that I didn't lie to back there. [he doesn't sound like he feels bad about it] That's just how it was.
and he pauses, blinking. there's a moment where his expression shifts from something surprised, to something a little sad. his shoulders lose some of their anger, droop a little bit.]
.... I....
Not even once....?
[and he sounds bewildered about his own realization for two seconds,]
[This is awful. It's truly terrible really. One, it's bad Senri honestly hasn't lied at all to Takaomi for the length they've been here playing the game. Two, it's bad this has been the case while Takaomi has lied instead. Three... asking Sasuke Uchiha to teach punching for the sake of revenge...
He raises both of his hands, placating.]
I'll teach you. [Because he thinks it's amusing, because Takaomi has given Senri a hard time.] But are you sure you really want to hit him?
We'll find out tomorrow - I don't want to see him again until then.
However.
[he grins shamelessly, because nito senri is bad actually, and the image he puts on for the public means that he can't be as aggro as he actually feels]
While I'm pissed seems like as good a time to learn as any.
[For a few moments, Sasuke considers whether he actually wants to try to teach Senri how to throw a mean punch. Ah, to hell with it...
Stepping forward, he brushes into Senri's space, raising a hand to press it against Senri's chest and back them up toward the middle of the room.] First, you have to stand correctly. [His foot slides out, maneuvering Senri's at the ankle. He turns Senri to the side, facing forward, one leg in front of the other.]
Your center of gravity is more stable when you're fighting head-on. [Moving in front, he again presses against Senri's chest with a hand, but this time, it's rougher. Senri will be able to lean into it and stay standing.] As long as they aren't on your sides.
[He steps over, gives Senri a little shove from the side. It's harder to stay balanced this way; the feet and legs are wrong.] Always face your opponent.
[sure, why not a physical lesson - he goes with the second shove because of course he does, sasuke is strong than him, but he'll pivot his feet to face him properly after a second and he can't help but remark - ]
It's kind of like blocking...
[goddamn theater nerd,,
anyway he's listening, attentive. he's horrible when it comes to his written studies and he can't fucking math to save his life - but he's a decently skilled copy cat, and a quick study. it's how he broke into theater in the first place. when it comes to something that he actually wants to learn, and is determined to learn, he's a fairly adept student]
Raise your arms. [He waits until Senri lifts them, and he curls his hands around the forearms near the wrists.] Don't ball your fists when guarding. [He positions the arms tucked somewhat close, up high enough to guard the head and neck.]
Protect your head and neck always. Use your elbows. [He moves Senri's arms, down, out, blocking with the forearms, blocking with the elbows.] It doesn't matter how big or little you are. It doesn't matter how much muscle you have.
Fighting is about momentum. [He pulls Senri's hands down lower then steps back and in front, straight, standing.] Don't punch with your arm, punch with your hips. Step forward and turn.
Punch me in the stomach. Turn your fist over and curl it upward. [He points up toward his face.] Keep your eyes on me, not where you're punching. Punch through me, not at me.
but he's mentally taking notes as sasuke tells him what to do, shallow little nods as he processes and memorizes. there's a stutter when sasuke tells him to actually punch him - if only because senri isn't mad at sasuke, he's mad at taka. but it probably makes sense that he has to hit sasuke because taka is not currently here right now.]
... I still have some apple gels from Jude-kun left. We're going to eat them together after because you should be resting just as much as I should be.
[AND YET HERE THEY ARE.
but that's pretty much all senri says before he puts sasuke's instructions all together. face his opponent, use momentum, keep his gaze locked on sasuke's face, and punch him in the stomach.
senri thinks about fights that he's been choreographed into on stage. he tells himself it's just like that, and that's why he can execute it as directed without hesitating - he just won't think about how sasuke never gave him a count for a dodge or a faked hit. it'll probably be fine.]
[Luckily, Sasuke has been doing this a very, very long time. He waits for Senri to punch, and he hardens the muscles of his abs. The best place to practice is the stomach for this reason. When Senri hits, they're solid and almost immovable.
Looks like they aren't just for show.]
Again. You aren't going to be punching him in the stomach. If you want to punch in the chest, you hit here. [He lifts his fingers to brush his sternum at the apex of where the shirt hands open.] Otherwise, it's better to hit the neck, if you can.
Since you just want to punch him rather than hurt him, just aim for the cheek. [A pause.] Does he know how to fight?
[There's absolutely no warning or hesitation: Sasuke throws his arm out and snaps his fist at the wrist. The power comes from the swivel in his hips as he steps forward.
He doesn't punch Senri in the stomach so much as his fist just connects. He barely moves his body, but there's quite a bit of force behind the action. It won't hurt or cripple, but it'll definitely sting.]
Always be on guard. Since he won't be without any training, that's the time you need to hit him.
The only thing you need to remember is to punch through him and to punch with your hips. Don't throw it with power from your arm and shoulder. That's pointless. You don't need to move to get the strength to hit someone well.
You have to be serious. [He really is even when he tries not to be...] True fighting isn’t a game or a joke. [His eye narrows softly.] True fighting isn’t about finding a way to simply punch your partner.
[Bold coming from the Let’s Have Like Four Fights Narutoooooo.]
[he's still a jumpy rabbit at the end of the day. but he'll shake his head and focus again, frowning as he does but otherwise trying to forcibly flatten out his jumbled nerves]
... after I hit Shishimaru, you should give him this same lesson. He'll be in more danger than we are on Thursdays.
If he wants. He has to be willing. Are you expecting me to offer or are you offering?
[God. They have emo solidarity, but he doesn’t know if Takaomi particularly likes him. He did get a burger, but he doesn’t realize the significance. Maybe he’s simply useful to Takaomi for Senri’s sake.]
[because senri can't expect emos to do anything on their own!! anyway senri is just going to sigh out a breath so that he can focus - and then he'll do as sasuke asks.
if nothing else, knowing that sasuke doesn't actually get hurt from his punches helps him feel better in working out any residual anger as he punches again]
[Again, his abs harden to take the brunt of the punches. His stomach might be tender later, but it’ll be fine. He’s literally had... so much worse.]
Up. [He catches and holds Senri’s fist against his stomach, pulling the arm to show how Senri should hit him upward.] You’re inexperienced. There’s already no fairness in a fight with you if the other person is skilled. You should worry more about hitting them and running.
The groin, the eyes, the neck. And then you run.
[He knows this isn’t viable with Taka... but... for the record.]
[senri nods - he asked for this a while ago for a reason. he's learning not for the sake of punching taka, but because this place is dangerous and he should stop expecting people to take care of him. he's never going to be the strongest in a physical fight, but there's no point in letting himself continue to be helpless.]
... well, now that Ogou-san isn't cursed, hopefully it won't come to this.
[for the next punch, senri moves his fist in a more upward motion]
