Sasuke made a really big deal about the coins because he was worried about me. So I asked Justice, and then asked Cheri again afterward to make sure. It really is just about seeing how many times someone's defected....
[he tilts his head]
It's not perfect, but it'll hopefully at least clear some people, even if I didn't know their alignments beforehand.
... Not quite. I told them who I suspected of being Fortune's killer. I'm going to try and corner them this trial—assuming both they and I are still alive—to see if I'm right.
You're getting the abridged version because I'm tired.
It's based off of what Disorder said about good actors—implying that includes Fortune's killer. I took that to suggest they were actively involved in discussing Fortune's death.
Among the people who I'd include in that list, Luna is the only one who doesn't have any kind of defence. Catra's the next most likely after her, but I'm putting her a level below because I don't think she'd bother with the Equivalent Exchange messages like that, including Madoka's from the first week. That was unlikely to be Hector's work, since he outed himself with an offer to heal her—possibly a calculated move, but too risky if that were the case. It'd be easier to believe he did it more out of altruism than to hide his own crime.
There's also the fact of the matter that just about every theory Luna came up with in regards to Fortune's death was wrong, whereas she fared better with the other kills. She was also one of the people who approached Ambition and talked about Fortune's killer to her.
Next is her general attitude. I wouldn't form any definite conclusions based off that alone, since people are more than what they seem, but it wouldn't exactly shock you to learn she might've been a Ruin follower or carved those messages, right?
Not to mention I suspect she was never cursed back then, when she accused Madoka of following Ruin.
[...]
Why don't you like her? I'm not complaining, since I was worried you'd try and defend her, but...
The thing with Madopyon for one - I'd agree with you that she probably wasn't cursed. I think she was just making a stir and trying to disrupt things, for whatever reason. There's no way to know for sure why, but she didn't even apologize to Madopyon after, unlike Estelle-chan who felt really bad about it. Even if she was cursed, she could at least be decent enough to say sorry.
And I was irritated with how she spoke to Taka too - enough that I wanted to pick a fight. She could cast shade on his truth all she wanted, but was still being pretty useless in terms of actually uncovering other things. I don't like the feeling that I got.
In general, she's hard to actually talk to - and that's pretty rare for me. I get along with Connor-san fine, so it's not that I'm bad with robots or anything.
[he frowns]
I get people who have dumb ideas - I still hang out with Sasuke - but I couldn't figure out any good reason behind hers.
I don't mind her on a casual level, but I wouldn't use my tolerance as a good measure for anything.
... In any case, I'm likely going to ask her directly at the trial if she killed Fortune. Sasuke and I have already agreed on signals to express whether she's lying or not. [...] But with your idea in consideration, I'll also ask if she ever switched factions. In fact, it might be best to start with that.
You can bring up your coin idea then, and we'll confirm if she lied about that or not. If she did, then that'll be the first step to discrediting her.
Of course, I expect her to try and dance around the answer—especially as to whether she killed Fortune or not—but I can deal with that.
I think I'll start trial with it, just because I'd like to know.... It'll look less suspicious if we ask everyone anyway. Or do you want me to only bring it up after you talk to her first?
[wow timing is hard]
I just don't like her. Now that I know you suspect her, I don't even feel bad about it.
Wow, if I knew that all it took to get you to dislike someone was be a jerk to Takaomi, I would've done that weeks ago.
[anyway.]
Ideally, we'd get everyone to verbally confirm how many times they've switched before you reveal your method, so as to catch any liars. However, that's dependent on everyone being willing to give that info—truthfully or not—and I bet there'll be some resistance, especially since there'd be no excuse to enforce the survey.
So if you think that won't work out, we can jump right into revealing the coins, which people will have less room to refuse. [a pause.] What'll you do if someone claims to have lost theirs, though?
Call them stupid and make them go find it. Majima-san or Ishirin-san can escort them, if they want, but that's so dumb I don't even know where to start.
[that cOMING FROM SENRI OF ALL PEOPLE]
.... but I don't think we need to catch liars, do you? I think that'll make people more distrusting and irritated. Revealing that kind of thing... can really ostracize someone, if they aren't careful about it. They could get mad at me too, and I don't know if I want to deal with that....
The point is mainly that I want to catch Luna lying. Though I don't disagree that singling her out—without yet revealing that I suspect her of Fortune's death—might not go over well.
So all right. We can start with the coins right away.
[he smiles wryly.]
... In any case, it'll be good for me to confirm whether or not her coin shows only one switch. After all, I'm staking any credibility I have on my accusation.
.... it might not show only one. There's nothing to say that she couldn't have come from Disorder and then gone to Ruin last week, you know? But either way, her coin just can't be perfect - and as long as it isn't, then there's probably some merit to suspecting her.
[that's what he thinks anyway....]
I'll pretend like I don't know about your plan anyway.
Well, it's fine. If it comes down to it, I can just go through the trouble of asking every single person with a mark if they killed Fortune as if I suspect everyone—though, of course, that means I'll be a prime suspect as well.
Which reminds me: when or if Luna answers and you see Sasuke react, respond in some way as well. Sasuke wants to keep his faction a secret, so it'll help if you disguise the fact that he's signalling me.
If it comes down to it, I have proof that I was with Love last week, but it might result in Catra trying to kill me on the spot, so I'd prefer it as a last resort.
[he runs a hand through his bangs, as if exasperated.]
That's mine. Sasuke will shove his hands into his pockets if she's lying.
The specification I made was: publicly confess anything she's been hiding recently. So, if I say that and she confirms that was her particular obsession, it'll prove it was my doing.
I was seeing if she'd confess to being a culprit. The fact she didn't isn't really proof that she wasn't one, but the ability works less efficiently the more specific I make it, so I kept it general to be on the safe side.

[ray's not sure? if he's supposed to bring it up?]

About...
Them telling you their alignments? And that they're going to be using All Nighter to stay with Ruin this weekend?
[he just got that yesterday]

... who?
Ishirin-san says that he thinks it might be Luna-san, but I didn't know he got that from you.

He did.
Sasuke knows I have a suspect as well, but I haven't told him who yet. Regardless, if he's alive this weekend, he'll use his ability to help me out.
... Well, though I guess if he's dead, none of this will be relevant to you anymore anyway.

How come you think it was Luna-san....? I don't like her - but I don't have a real reason behind it.
